2nd prize in short story contest

This is to inform you all that I had bagged 2nd prize for my short story - The Escape in last year's Sunday Herald Short Story Contest (announced early this year). It was inspired by one of my escapades - the unfinished trek to Bali Kunja made with my colleague and co-conspirator Kailash Rao. The setting is the same, I surgically removed Kailash from the narrative and made Haradi Nagesh Nayak - our guide from the village at the base into a young boy and said a lot of things that I've always wanted to say in the form of a conversation with him... It was very heartening to know that people liked what I thought was a very personal piece - I'd written it up for myself and a few friends, not the contest and had submitted it at the insistence of a friend.

The picture is a wonderful illustration made for the story by Deccan Herald artist Yati Siddhakatte.
